I think everyone must have seen the hilarious Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo mini movie made by HomeAway. I just squirmed for the unfortunate couple as they tried to have a romantic night together. If you haven’t seen it, here is the link to it: Hotel Hell Vacation. It is very funny. However, to quote Homer Simpson “It’s only funny ‘cos it’s true”!

I am a reasonably well educated, well brought up English woman and I have been reduced to a quivering wreck by staff at fancy schmancy hotels. I have been in hotels where the staff are breathtakingly superior and then when you are finally delivered to your room (standard towel service!) you realize that what you have is a broom cupboard with a bird’s eye view of the air conditioning units! Of course, not all hotels are like this, there are some excellent ones – but boy, do you pay for them!
My other bugbear with hotels is that they are just not young children friendly. When my girls were little, they wanted to eat when they were hungry, not when the hotel through that they should be hungry. Consequently, I used to buy bananas and apples, little cookies and granola bars etc so that I had food on hand to feed my crying toddlers when they needed feeding. However, on more than one occasion I was reprimanded by hotel management as I was not allowed “to cater for myself”. When I explained the reason for my having food in my room – that the hotel’s catering facilities were not open when my children needed to eat – I believed that this would be the end of it, but no. I was expressly forbidden to store food in my room. Try explaining that to your 2 year old at 6:00am!
Thankfully, none of this happen in vacation rentals. Vacation rentals (with very few exceptions) are lovely, spacious houses that truly are a home from home. There are no superior staff to deal with and any one of your family can eat whenever they want to. You are not obliged to be out and about if you don’t want to sit in your room, you can be in the garden, or hanging together in the kitchen. However, my most favorite thing about vacation rentals as opposed to hotels is that you can all sit around together in the evening, without having to take your children into a bar, and have family time together.
For me, and Chevy Chase and his family, vacation rentals are the perfect holiday! While you are on this site, why not have a good look around to see if you can find the perfect vacation rental for your next holiday?
