A Vacation Rental Hawaiian Style
Our family just returned from a relaxing and incredible Hawaiian vacation. We did not stay in a vacation rental this time. My father-in-law is retired military and wanted to stay at the Hale Koa. This is a wonderful world class resort exclusively for military personal and their families.
However, we could not help but notice the influx of vacation rentals available in Waikiki. The island of Oahu is still suffering the effects of foreclosures, and people struggling to make house payments. Needless to say, there are now more vacation rental homes available. That’s what we call vacation rentals Hawaiian style. You do what you gotta, and it will be “pono.”
We had members from my family and from my wife’s family staying in a vacation rental on Lewers Street, and it was nice. It was just a couple of blocks from us, close to the new Trump resort on Waikiki. So there were 20 in our group. The price was also less than the $155.00 a night we were paying at the Hale Koa.
It was a great reminder of how convenient it is to stay in a vacation rental property. With a large family, it is so much cheaper to fix even one meal to eat at your home away from home, rather than eating out. Our family in the vacation rental property fixed their own breakfast every day, plus took advantage of the local fruits and veggies. They were able to buy supplies at the PX, and keep them stored to use.
While we were paying $5 for ¼ pineapple that was attractively prepared, our family was paying $2 for a pineapple at the store that they took home and fixed. We ate a lot of pineapple in Hawaii and that adds up quickly. We had to get up and dress for breakfast; they ate breakfast in their pajamas, and then started the day.
They stayed in a similar vacation rental for their 4 days on Kauai. There cost was $120 per night. Now that’s a deal. They mentioned that while they were there, they could have stayed in some condos for $70 per night, which were right on the ocean, and not far from their chosen destination of Waimea Canyon.
Air fair was pretty good also. Our tickets for coach were $510 per person, via U.S. Air. We did a plane change in Phoenix on the way out, and Las Vegas on the way back. One checked bag of less than $50 lbs. cost us $25 each way. If you factor that in, we paid $560.00 a person to get to Hawaii. The inter-island flight was $110 per person. In fact, you can do lots of day trips to other islands right now for around $300 per person.
So, why not try a Vacation Rental Hawaiian Style, next time you get in the mood for a tropical vacation. There are lots of great deals out there. One is waiting for you.
